Senior Controls Engineer (PLC)

Location: Hybrid role based in Irving, Texas, United States; travel up to 40% of the year, including short-duration assignments and multiple 10-days-on/4-days-off rotations. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time for any employer in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Develop control system designs, program and commission PLC code, and create graphical user interfaces for material handling systems.
• Test and emulate software before deployment and execute module, subsystem, and system testing.
• Troubleshoot PLC code and electrical equipment during on-site installation, commissioning, and testing.
• Support control network architecture, electrical device requirements, and interpretation of customer standards and technical documentation.
• Estimate software module development, commissioning activities, and project requirements.
• Lead the controls engineering team and recommend solutions to improve productivity, reduce costs, and enhance system performance and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• Seven years of experience in the material handling industry or a similar industry. A master’s degree may substitute for the seven-year requirement if combined with at least five years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience programming Rockwell Automation PLCs, including GuardLogix, and Siemens TIA Portal PLCs, including Starter.
• Experience with EtherNet/IP network architecture, industrial machine control development and troubleshooting, and related control systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematic drawings and understand HMI programming.
• Proven experience leading controls engineers on large, complex material handling projects, with supervisory and leadership skills.
• Experience developing staffing schedules and managing project timelines and budgets.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results within established timelines.

• Experience with industrial machine control development and troubleshooting is preferred.
