Senior Backend Product Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in London, England, with at least 2–3 days per week at the Old Street office (N1 7LB).

Salary: £95,000–£125,000 base salary per year for candidates located in London, plus a performance bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and run systems across the pre-trade, trade, and post-trade lifecycle.
• Work with product managers and business stakeholders to turn open-ended problems into measurable software outcomes.
• Develop features for structured investments, equity IPOs, hedging and monetization, ETFs, and related capital-markets workflows.
• Own services from problem shaping through production operation, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Build and use AI-assisted and agentic features throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate in autonomous Kanban teams with colleagues and stakeholders in New York, while mentoring engineers and sharing engineering standards.

Requirements

• Professional experience developing server-side applications with Java or Kotlin.
• Experience turning business problems into working software with clear, measurable impact.
• Experience building and operating mission-critical production services, including CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
• Strong testing practices across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, with sound judgment about test coverage at each level.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, relational database design, REST API design, and Kafka or a similar event-streaming platform.
• Experience working AI-first, including using AI agents to build software, understanding how LLMs work, and judging when their output can be trusted.
• Technical leadership within a team, including mentoring less experienced engineers and setting and sharing engineering standards.
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to non-engineers.

Nice to have

• Financial-services experience, ideally in capital markets.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, Kubernetes, Postgres, AWS, and Terraform.
• Experience with TypeScript and React, or motivation to try full-stack development.
• Experience building AI or agentic applications.
