Senior Kotlin / Java Software Engineer (Banking Payments)

What you will do

• Build and evolve business-critical payment services using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot to support reliable SEPA money movement.
• Develop payment lifecycle capabilities covering initiation, validation, execution, status handling, returns, exception management, and reconciliation.
• Design domain models, APIs, and event-driven workflows connecting customer-facing products with internal systems and external banking partners.
• Write secure, well-tested, maintainable code focused on correctness, resilience, and traceability.
• Develop and operate AWS cloud-native applications, including containerised ECS services and event-driven Lambda workloads.
• Improve delivery and operations through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability, monitoring, automated testing, and continuous delivery.

Requirements

• Strong experience building backend services with Kotlin or Java and Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of Domain-Driven Design and the ability to translate complex business processes into clear software models.
• Experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven systems and APIs.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud-native development, especially containerised and serverless workloads.
• Confidence with automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, production observability, and monitoring.
• Quality and security mindset with attention to reliability, maintainability, and operational ownership.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
• Interest in complex financial workflows or curiosity to learn them quickly.
• University degree in computer science, engineering, sciences, or a comparable qualification.

• Exposure to SEPA payments or payment processing.
