Tech Lead (Python/Go)

Location: Hamburg, Germany; flexible hybrid model with work from home on Mondays and Fridays and office attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

What you will do

• Set technical direction and lead architecture and system design decisions for the team.
• Turn product and business goals into executable technical plans, manage dependencies and risks, and support reliable delivery to production.
• Maintain engineering quality, observability, reliability, testability, maintainability, and system health while addressing technical debt and architectural risks.
• Guide engineers through code reviews, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and the development of greater technical ownership.
• Contribute hands-on to technically complex and high-leverage areas of the Python and Go codebase.
• Champion responsible AI-assisted practices for development, testing, investigation, and documentation, and collaborate with Product, Data, and internal business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience building and operating production backend systems with Python. Experience with Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis, or comparable technologies is expected.
• Practical experience with event-driven architectures and microservices, including maintaining reliability and manageability at scale.
• Experience leading technical discussions, guiding engineers, and raising engineering quality and best practices without requiring formal people-management experience.
• Ability to translate ambiguous product or business goals into technical approaches, sequence work, manage technical risks, and deliver safely to production.
• Experience owning systems beyond implementation, including observability, failure modes, operational readiness, and behavior under production load.
• Interest in business mechanics and using business context to make technical trade-offs.
• Daily use of AI tools, including coding assistants and automation, with the ability to help others use them effectively and responsibly.
• Clear communication, knowledge-sharing, and mentoring skills.

• Experience with Go.
• Experience with FastAPI or comparable modern API frameworks.
