Technical Buyer (Energy & Water)

What you will do

• Run the day-to-day procurement process for assigned technical material categories, including mechanical, piping, electrical, structural, and instrumentation equipment.
• Review technical drawings, scopes, and specifications and prepare complete enquiry packages.
• Prepare and issue RFQs and tenders, manage supplier clarifications, evaluate quotations, and place purchase orders within delegated authority.
• Maintain material take-offs, procurement and delivery schedules, trackers, records, and reporting inputs.
• Track supplier manufacture, delivery, quality, audits, inspections, and non-conformances, escalating programme and budget risks.
• Coordinate with engineering, commercial, SHEQ, construction, operations, logistics, suppliers, and procurement expeditors.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience as a buyer or procurement coordinator in a technical, engineering, or major projects environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work for material components, or strong aptitude and willingness to develop this skill.
• Experience running RFQ or tender processes and raising purchase orders according to company procedures.
• Good negotiation and supplier-management skills, with confidence managing day-to-day supplier relationships.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple purchase orders and competing deadlines.
• Good communication skills and ability to liaise across technical, commercial, and operational teams.
• Proficiency with standard office and procurement or ERP systems for processing orders, maintaining schedules, and updating trackers.

Nice to have

• Experience procuring mechanical, piping, electrical, structural, or instrumentation categories.
• Exposure to FEED, EPC, or EPCM project delivery environments.
• Working towards or holding a relevant procurement qualification, such as CIPS.
• Working knowledge of SHEQ requirements relevant to materials procurement and supplier manufacture.
• Experience supporting supplier or factory quality audits.
