Sr Mechanical Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: Milpitas, California, United States. Full-time, onsite position.

Salary: $117,800–$200,300 annually.

What you will do

• Sustain RAPID legacy systems that remain in high-volume manufacturing, with obsolescence as a key program driver.
• Design, fabricate, test, and characterize opto-mechanical modules, precision mechanisms, mechanical packaging, racks, chassis, and mechatronic systems.
• Own projects from requirements specification and feasibility studies through detailed design, prototype procurement, testing, system integration, and manufacturing handoff.
• Perform mechanical, thermal, CFD, finite element, modal, tolerance, and error-budget analyses.
• Build vendor relationships, support component fabrication and process transfer, and participate in qualification activities.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and new product introduction teams to resolve issues throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree with 0 years of related experience, or a master's degree with 3 years of related experience, or a bachelor's degree with 5 years of related experience.
• Understanding of physics and mechanics, including mechanical design, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience or capability in precision mechanisms, ultra-high-vacuum systems, opto-mechanical design, vibration isolation, and electronic packaging.
• Knowledge of tolerance analysis, GD&T, error budgeting, and requirements flow-up and flow-down.
• Knowledge of finite element analysis, creep and stress relaxation, and modal analysis.
• Ability to perform thermal analysis involving heat transfer, temperature gradients, thermal transients, and thermo-elastic effects.
• Familiarity with machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, and other mechanical manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in 3D solid-modeling CAD.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills for concurrent collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, and new product introduction.
