Software Engineer II, Backend (Purchasing Power - Core) (Fintech)

Location: Remote Canada; candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.

Base pay per year: $133,000–$183,000 CAD.

What you will do

• Design and implement underwriting platform features for partnered merchants and users across multiple interfaces.
• Break larger projects into tasks, deliver work in phases, and collaborate with teammates to ensure timely delivery.
• Partner with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, trade-offs, and product decisions.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, escalate issues, and support availability, on-call, and keep-the-lights-on efforts.
• Participate in team growth and development activities, including the interview process.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of total software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems, with proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed-systems building blocks and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to turn a simple problem or business scenario into a solution interacting with multiple software components, using clear, well-tested, and extensible code.
• Comfort navigating a large codebase, debugging other engineers' code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
• Demonstrated ownership of professional growth and proactive feedback-seeking from teammates, managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Must reside in one of the listed Canadian provinces.
