Principal Software Engineer (Frontend)

Location: Fully remote, but candidates must be located in the United States.

What you will do

• Define long-term full-stack architecture and technical strategy for messaging, notifications, personalization, and experimentation systems.
• Design and implement resilient, low-latency microservices, data models, API contracts, modular React/TypeScript components, and client SDKs.
• Make architectural trade-offs across experimentation speed, client rendering performance, distributed-systems reliability, data consistency, security, and accessibility.
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Engineering, and product engineering teams to establish unified contracts and accelerate platform adoption.
• Mentor Senior and Mid-level engineers, lead RFC and architecture reviews, and promote engineering standards and developer productivity.
• Improve operational excellence through telemetry, distributed tracing, server and client metrics, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on modern client-side or frontend architecture and development.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on proficiency with React, TypeScript, modern JavaScript ES6+, HTML5, and modern CSS architectures.
• Experience as a Staff or Principal Engineer or Technical Lead, designing and owning end-to-end frontend architecture for large-scale, high-traffic SaaS applications.
• Deep browser and client-systems expertise, including Core Web Vitals, bundle splitting, memory lifecycle, rendering pipelines, and client-side state management.
• Experience writing architecture proposals and RFCs, establishing technical roadmaps, and setting engineering quality standards across multiple teams or squads.
• Experience with technical mentorship and cross-functional leadership, including coaching senior P50/P40 engineers and partnering with Product Management, Design, and Backend stakeholders without formal authority.
