Senior Network Automation Engineer (EVPN-VXLAN)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite position with up to 20% travel. Candidates must be U.S. persons or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $131,000–$186,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Architect end-to-end automation pipelines for multi-vendor EVPN-VXLAN underlay and overlay fabrics across Arista EOS/AVD and Juniper Junos/Apstra environments.
• Integrate AI-assisted engineering workflows, including agentic automation testing, playbook generation, and natural-language telemetry querying.
• Maintain vendor-agnostic Network as Code standards using reusable YAML, JSON, and YANG data models.
• Own schema configuration and data definitions for enterprise Single Source of Truth platforms such as NetBox or Nautobot.
• Build network CI/CD validation and dry-run testing workflows with tools such as Batfish, pyATS, GitLab CI, and GitHub Actions.
• Define automation coding standards and AI-generated-code guardrails while mentoring junior network developers.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of network engineering experience, including at least 4 years focused on network automation and NetDevOps.
• Deep expertise in underlay routing with eBGP and OSPF and overlay design with EVPN-VXLAN across enterprise-scale data centers and campus networks.
• Programmatic engineering experience with Arista EOS and Juniper Junos.
• Senior-level software engineering proficiency with Python using Nornir, Asyncio, and NAPALM, or with Go, for building internal infrastructure APIs.
• Practical experience using AI code assistants, prompt engineering patterns, or agentic frameworks to safely generate, refactor, and test automation code.
• Expert production-tested experience with Terraform, Ansible, and standard GitOps workflows.
• Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
• Willingness to work overtime or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lb unassisted.
• Specific certifications as appropriate.

Nice to have

• Advanced certifications such as Arista ACE, Juniper JNCIE, Cisco CCIE, or DevNet Professional/Expert.
• Experience with open streaming telemetry standards, including gNMI and gRPC, for monitoring and parsing real-time fabric state.
• Experience containerizing internal networking scripts or microservices with Docker or Kubernetes.
