Senior Engineer (Gas Turbine Design)

Location: San Diego, California; onsite five days a week.

Salary: $112,704–$169,056 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement new component designs and improvements to existing rotating and static gas turbine hardware.
• Apply mechanical analysis and design fundamentals to improve product durability, capabilities, performance, maintainability, and cost.
• Define, lead, and execute medium- to large-scale projects from root cause analysis and solution concepts through validation and product implementation.
• Perform detailed mechanical design work and manage work scope and execution against time-sensitive DevOps deliverables.
• Lead component rig or engine test activities when required, including hardware, instrumentation, scheduling, data analysis, and post-test inspections.
• Support customer services, manufacturing, and supply chain operations as needed.

Requirements

• Directly applicable mechanical design work experience and a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Experience with concept and detail design principles, gas turbine design and analysis, and mechanical analysis of turbine hardware.
• Experience using ANSYS for detailed modal and structural finite element analysis.
• Experience reviewing and checking engineering drawings.
• Technical report writing experience and strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
• Experience preparing and leading technical design reviews.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing according to ASME Y14.5-2009, Creo or a related CAD system, and Windchill.
• Design experience with compressor, combustion, and/or turbine section hardware.
• Practical manufacturing and producibility knowledge.
• ANSYS experience in gas turbine component design or analysis, gas turbine operation and application, materials and processes, manufacturing methods, and test procedures.
• Experience with detailed cross-section stack-ups, life prediction methods, turbine blade heat transfer fundamentals, failure investigation methods, Microsoft Office, and technical writing.
