Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Pulsed Power & Experimental Systems)

Location: On-site in Livermore, California, United States

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses

What you will do

• Develop precision mechanical and opto-electro-mechanical designs for pulsed power, high-voltage, accelerator, diagnostic, and experimental systems.
• Translate physics and engineering requirements into 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and released design packages.
• Support hardware through concept development, design reviews, procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing.
• Apply GD&T, ASME Y14.5, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturing practices.
• Coordinate with machine shops, fabricators, suppliers, and procurement teams to resolve manufacturing issues and meet project schedules.
• Lead or check the work of designers and detailers while collaborating with mechanical, electrical, physics, controls, and manufacturing teams.

Requirements

• At least 15 years of progressively responsible mechanical design, mechanical engineering technology, product design, or related experience supporting complex hardware.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Creo/ProENGINEER and/or SolidWorks.
• Experience with engineering drawings, GD&T, ASME Y14.5, tolerance analysis, configuration control, and manufacturing methods.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, engineering technology, design, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Current DOE Q clearance is preferred; the ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance is mandatory.

Nice to have

• Experience with pulsed power, high-voltage systems, accelerator technologies, diagnostics, experimental physics hardware, nuclear security programs, or national laboratory R&D.
• Experience with Windchill, PDMLink, ELM, or similar PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience with vendor fabrication and procurement.
