Senior Controls Engineer

Salary: $134,000–$205,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Lead conceptual development of complex manufacturing and test equipment while balancing specifications, process controls, layouts, and lead times.
• Act as Responsible Engineer for equipment assets and SCADA modules from deployment through commissioning and stabilization.
• Diagnose systemic production-floor failures and lead formal root cause analyses to implement long-term solutions.
• Create and approve modular system architectures and electrical schematics compliant with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A standards.
• Write, debug, document, and maintain PLC structured-text programs and define technical requirements for vendors and integrators.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, support process characterization, and identify and mitigate engineering risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
• 7+ years of experience as a controls engineer working with complex electro-mechanical systems.
• Mastery of programming and troubleshooting automation controllers across IEC 61131-3 languages.
• Experience with control-reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA R15.06 and OSHA, plus enclosure design compliant with NFPA79, NEC, and UL508A.
• Experience collaborating with job shops and external equipment vendors, with strong troubleshooting, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Devens, lift up to 50 lbs occasionally, and work around heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, and cryogenics.

Nice to have

• Experience with Beckhoff or Siemens controls platforms and Ignition SCADA.
• Experience integrating equipment data through IO-Link, MQTT, or similar systems.
• Machine vision, startup commissioning, or CAD drafting experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Familiarity with rotating machinery, cable winding, soldering, or pipe bending.
