2027 Summer Internship - Communication Networks - London

Location: London Victoria office, United Kingdom; flexible working with London as the work base. The internship starts in June 2027 and lasts 8 weeks.

What you will do

• Work on real-world communication network technology challenges and solutions across telecoms and datacomms.
• Create software for advanced drone detection and research emerging communications technologies and their applications.
• Analyse the costs and benefits of communications technologies to support investment decisions and business cases.
• Develop machine learning algorithms for patent identification and analyse network performance data to identify issues and produce recommendations.
• Assess options for upgrading critical infrastructure that relies on legacy communications technology.
• Work with Networks consultants across assignment phases, from defining the problem and designing the approach to analysing evidence, developing recommendations, and presenting findings.

Requirements

• Working towards an undergraduate degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Economics, or another technical or numerate discipline.
• Open to undergraduates in their penultimate year, or final-year undergraduates who intend to return to university after the internship to complete an MSc or MEng.
• Interest in emerging technologies, particularly telecoms and datacomms, and willingness to solve complex problems without requiring deep expertise.
• Curiosity, willingness to take on unfamiliar problems, ask questions, and develop understanding of new technologies and industries.
• Ability to collaborate effectively, build relationships with clients and colleagues, and support others.
• Clear and confident written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas.
• Ability to structure unfamiliar problems, work with incomplete or messy information, and develop logical, evidence-based conclusions.

Nice to have

• Experience using Excel, Python, or MATLAB to analyse problems, build models, evaluate options, or test hypotheses.
• Experience sourcing, processing, analysing, or visualising data.
