Senior Software Engineer, Advanced Development (Embedded Systems)

Location: Hybrid in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, United States; applicants must reside within a reasonable commuting distance because of on-site requirements. Relocation is not offered.

Salary: $116,600–$135,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead the development of software solutions for algorithms and technologies within the Advanced Development organization.
• Provide technical leadership for software elements, technology roadmaps, software plans, schedules, and estimates.
• Analyze product and system requirements and create preliminary software requirements.
• Prototype, document, and develop architectures, designs, source code, and unit tests for complex application and embedded software, including parsers and simulators.
• Integrate algorithm and technology software into device software and hardware subsystems, and develop and execute software verification protocols.
• Collaborate with scientific affairs, product development, marketing, regulatory, quality, and manufacturing teams; mentor less experienced software engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related engineering or science discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on software design and development experience, including 3+ years of embedded software application development.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and object-oriented design.
• Experience with real-time operating systems, such as Green Hills Integrity, Mentor Graphics Nucleus, QNX, or Micrium.
• Experience developing applications for both real-time and non-real-time environments, such as Windows, Linux, or iOS.
• In-depth knowledge of embedded systems, computer architectures, embedded and application software programming, and integration with hardware and electronics.
• Knowledge and experience with one or more of C, C++, C#, or Python.
• Demonstrated innovation in software development, architectures, algorithms, code development, or related engineering problems.
• Critical thinking, effective problem-solving, ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects, and ability to identify and implement alternative solutions.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree.
• Experience with device driver development.
• Experience in structured development environments with design controls.
• Experience with web technologies including databases, REST, HTML5, and JavaScript.
• Experience with test automation and automation-test development, such as Google Test or Jenkins.
• Experience with user interface development and technologies such as Qt, Crank, or Peg.
• Experience with medical device development.
