Senior Software Engineer (SMES) - Drivers/BSPs and Firmware (Embedded Systems)

Location: Camden, New Jersey, United States; based at the Camden Waterfront Campus. Relocation packages are available for qualified candidates.

Salary: $130,000–$175,000 annual range for applicable locations, including New Jersey. Qualified candidates receive a minimum $10,000 sign-on bonus.

What you will do

• Develop device drivers, board support packages, bootloaders, and low-level software for custom embedded systems.
• Diagnose and debug complex hardware-software boundary issues and investigate root causes.
• Develop software for testing manufactured circuit boards and identifying manufacturing or design issues.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on hardware-software interfaces, system performance, and overall design.
• Participate in requirements analysis, design, implementation, hardware-software integration, formal testing, peer reviews, and defect resolution.
• Create software test plans, procedures, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 6 years of software development experience, including 4 years developing and debugging drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, bare-metal applications, or other low-level embedded software.
• Experience developing embedded systems with C, C++, assembly, and/or Rust.
• Experience developing embedded Linux systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with device drivers and BSPs for Integrity, VxWorks, Zephyr, seL4, or Yocto-based systems.
• Hardware bring-up experience on prototype or first-run hardware and knowledge of modern SoC boot processes and security or safety capabilities.
• Experience with FPGA peripherals, Yocto/OE or Buildroot, BitBake, device trees, and the Linux kernel.
• Knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, AXI, PCI, or PCIe protocols.
• Experience with safety- or security-critical systems, DO-178, ASIL-D, Xilinx or Microchip SoCs, and bare-metal Rust.
