Focus on translating safety goals into HIL/SIL validation, fault-injection coverage, CI/CD test suites, and comprehensive safety cases.

Location: Waltham, MA, United States. The role requires eligibility to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base pay: $155,000–$193,000 per year.

Company

hirify.global develops mobile robots and automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.

What you will do

  • Lead cross-functional systems engineering initiatives for embedded system architectures, firmware requirements, and technical development plans for safe autonomous robotic platforms.
  • Gather stakeholder needs and derive, author, and parameterize system, firmware, and low-level software requirements.
  • Establish end-to-end requirements-to-verification traceability across Jama, Jira, Git, and automated test frameworks.
  • Define functional safety features, diagnostic logic, and low-level communication interfaces with Safety Firmware Engineers, including SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, and Ethernet.
  • Translate safety goals and system requirements into HIL/SIL test plans, fault-injection coverage, and CI/CD automated test suites with Firmware Test Engineers.
  • Lead HARA, FMEA, and Fault Tree Analysis to identify timing, communication, and fault-handling edge cases, and compile evidence for safety cases.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, embedded software or firmware development, or firmware validation for complex mechatronic or safety-critical robotic systems.
  • Technical command of Git, Linux environments, Jira, and requirements management platforms such as Jama.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded firmware and Python, including pytest ecosystems, for firmware development and test automation.
  • Deep familiarity with safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262, or IEC 62304, including compiling data to support safety claims.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, datasheets, and low-level protocol payloads for SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, and Ethernet.
  • Experience acting as a technical liaison between firmware development and product development teams.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, cross-functional collaboration, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Experience with MISRA C/C++ coding standards.
  • Experience with static and dynamic analysis software tools.
  • Familiarity with software and hardware testing in HIL/SIL environments.
  • Experience with embedded Linux kernel and user space, real-time operating systems, and hardware debuggers or trace equipment such as J-Link, Lauterbach, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Hands-on familiarity with electromechanical actuation subsystems, including motor controllers, encoders, and power/current sensing.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work within a cross-functional Safer Robotics Team developing safe, reliable, and reactive robotic technologies for operation alongside humans.
  • Collaborate with Safety Firmware Engineers and Firmware Test Engineers across hardware, firmware, systems engineering, and test infrastructure.
  • Contribute to robotics solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics.
