Sr. AI/ML Engineer II

Location: Hybrid and primarily onsite in the D.C. metro area, including Reston and Tysons Corner, Virginia, with occasional customer-site visits. Candidates must be able to work across designated DC Metro locations and verify eligibility to work in the United States.

Salary: $180,000–$205,000 per year, with potential performance-based bonuses and additional incentives.

What you will do

• Serve as a hands-on technical lead for an AI/ML engineering team, providing technical guidance, architectural direction, and implementation strategy.
• Design, build, train, integrate, deploy, and maintain production-ready AI/ML models and applications in secure environments.
• Apply machine learning techniques to support Retrieval-Augmented Generation and develop agentic AI systems, orchestration workflows, and automated data-processing capabilities.
• Design and maintain data architectures and services supporting AI/ML solutions, including model optimization, evaluation, and maintenance through Agile user stories and DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines.
• Provide architectural leadership and technical advisement to ensure system integration and compliance with security requirements, including classified AWS environments at Impact Level 6 or higher.
• Present technical findings, architectural recommendations, and project progress to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of relevant experience in AI/ML engineering, data science, machine learning, or a related technical discipline.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph.
• Extensive experience with open-source AI/ML models and the ability to evaluate and justify proprietary models when appropriate.
• Strong hands-on experience designing, building, training, integrating, deploying, and maintaining AI/ML models and production applications.
• Expert-level proficiency in at least two of Generative AI/LLMs, Natural Language Processing, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, or neural networks.
• At least 6 years of experience with two or more of Python, R, Anaconda, NumPy, TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, or PostgreSQL.
• At least 6 years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining data architectures and services for AI/ML solutions.
• Expert-level experience designing, developing, and deploying AI/ML solutions in classified AWS cloud environments at IL6 or higher.
• Strong analytical skills for assessing program and system performance, identifying manual processes, and developing algorithms or automation solutions.
• Strong experience designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining containerized AI/ML applications.
• Ability to work primarily onsite across designated DC Metro locations, including Tysons Corner and Reston, Virginia, with occasional customer-site visits.
