DBA Engineering Manager (Microsoft SQL Server)

Location: Fairfield, CA, US

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop Database Administrators and Application Support Analysts, including setting performance goals, development plans, workload priorities, and operational metrics.
• Oversee Microsoft SQL Server administration, database availability, performance, integrity, backup and recovery, capacity planning, upgrades, migrations, and disaster recovery initiatives.
• Manage support and maintenance for enterprise business applications, coordinating upgrades, patches, testing, deployments, issue resolution, and enhancement opportunities with business stakeholders.
• Ensure system reliability, security, operational compliance, documentation, service level objectives, and root cause analysis.
• Drive process improvement, automation, strategic technology planning, roadmap development, vendor relationships, and support contracts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of progressive experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• 3+ years of leadership or management experience.
• Strong understanding of database performance tuning, backup and recovery, and high-availability solutions.
• Experience supporting enterprise business applications in a production environment.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration; database performance tuning and optimization; backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning; enterprise application support and lifecycle management; incident, problem, and change management; team leadership and staff development; vendor and stakeholder management; process improvement and operational excellence; and project and resource management.

Nice to have

• Experience with ERP, financial, operational, or healthcare applications.
• Experience with cloud-hosted database and application platforms.
• Familiarity with ITIL principles and service management practices.
• Experience with monitoring, automation, and scripting technologies.
• Microsoft SQL Server certifications or related technical certifications.
