Manager, Hardware Sustaining Engineering

Location: Onsite in Sunnyvale, California, or Westford, Massachusetts, United States.

Salary: Annual base salary of USD 153,500–291,500 in Massachusetts or USD 153,500–310,500 in California. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of 4–6 hardware sustaining engineers through coaching, mentoring, regular one-on-ones, and OKRs.
• Manage concurrent failure analysis and design change programs, including priorities, resources, schedules, and closure.
• Investigate and resolve customer escalations involving HPE networking hardware with customers and support teams.
• Author and present RCCA and other hardware quality reports to customers and HPE stakeholders.
• Drive quality improvements in new products and NPI processes through corrective actions and feedback to design teams.
• Collaborate with Supply Chain, Component Engineering, Manufacturing, contract manufacturers, and ODMs on component lifecycle, production, and hardware quality issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
• Experience in hardware design or failure analysis, including 3+ years leading and managing a hardware engineering team.
• Experience coaching, building teams, and supporting team-member career growth.
• Experience with high-speed digital hardware design, testing, and debugging.
• Expertise in hardware quality, failure analysis, and root-cause/corrective action (RCCA).
• Success managing multiple concurrent programs and priorities and delivering results on schedule.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple geographies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including communication with executive leadership and major customers.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
• 5 or more years in a team manager role with direct reports.
• Strong customer focus and ability to act as the voice of the customer for hardware quality, reliability, and serviceability goals.
• Familiarity with schematic and FPGA design, PCB layout, and manufacturing process flow.
• Experience working with contract manufacturing and ODM partners worldwide to investigate and remediate hardware quality issues.
• Experience compiling and analyzing data and working with quality metrics, Tableau dashboards, and OKRs.
• Familiarity with networking hardware components, interfaces, and systems, including reviewing system-level test plans and results and translating them into hardware-specific insights.
• Experience with product-lifecycle change management tools such as Agile PLM.
