Submarine Operations Training SME (Naval Training)

Location: Ottawa, ON, Canada; other locations include Esquimalt, Abbotsford, and Montreal (St. Laurent). Hybrid work model with both on-site and remote collaboration. Legal authorization to work in Canada is required.

Base pay: $129,400–$179,400K CAD per year, with final compensation determined by experience, skill, location, and internal equity.

What you will do

• Provide Royal Canadian Navy submarine operations and training expertise throughout the training system lifecycle, from analysis and design through delivery and evaluation.
• Support the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project through operational analysis, training needs analysis, instructional system design, simulation, scenario development, and performance measurement.
• Define, validate, and review operational simulation and scenario requirements, including training and test procedures, lesson plans, performance checklists, and reusable scenario libraries.
• Support the design, testing, validation, and execution of submarine training system solutions across shore-based and at-sea environments.
• Conduct trade studies, recommend training solutions from hirify.global and supplier offerings, and support proposal development, bids, and cost estimates.
• Identify training system defects, support early resolution, and monitor maritime training technologies for innovation opportunities.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in submarine operations within the Royal Canadian Navy or a comparable national navy.
• Operational experience as an Officer or Non-Commissioned Member in a submarine environment.
• Strong understanding of submarine operational systems and/or submarine training systems.
• Knowledge of the System Approach to Training, including CFITES or an equivalent framework, and experience contributing to training needs analysis for individual and collective training.
• Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and collaborate effectively on-site and remotely.
• Ability to develop and review technical and instructional documentation.
• Proficiency with Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Visio.
• Eligibility to meet Canada Controlled Goods Program requirements and ability to obtain and maintain Level II NATO SECRET security clearance and meet ITAR requirements.
• Legal authorization to work in Canada as a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or valid Work Permit.

Nice to have

• Deep technical background in submarine-related occupations.
• Experience with naval training development, testing, and student evaluation.
• Knowledge of the CAF Military Employment Structure and its application to training development and execution.
• Familiarity with simulation, e-learning, virtual or augmented reality, and synthetic environments.
• Experience supporting complex, integrated naval training solutions or large-scale defence programs.
