Shipbuild Project Manager (Wave Energy)

Location: Marine Operations in Stockholm, Sweden, and Viana do Castelo, Portugal; regular travel and periods at the shipyard are required.

hirify.global develops wave energy technology and is building a purpose-designed vessel for installing and retrieving Wave Energy Converters at sea.

What you will do

• Represent the owner throughout the vessel newbuild project, from shipyard selection and contracting through delivery and the warranty period.
• Prepare tender documentation, evaluate shipyards, and lead or support negotiations covering specifications, payment terms, guarantees, and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate the shipyard, ship designer, equipment suppliers, and WEC engineering team, including design progress, drawing approvals, design changes, and vessel-WEC handling interfaces.
• Follow classification, flag-state approval, certification, remote and unmanned operation systems, and the interface with the remote operations centre.
• Supervise construction quality, inspections, testing, HSE performance, non-conformities, FAT, harbour acceptance tests, sea trials, commissioning, and delivery.
• Control budget, schedule, risks, claims, and variation orders; support crewing, maintenance, safety management, technical documentation, and the transition to operations.

Requirements

• MSc or BSc in naval architecture, marine engineering, mechanical engineering, or a similar field.
• At least 8 years of experience in shipbuilding or offshore projects, including at least one complete newbuild project from contract to delivery.
• Experience representing the owner or working on the yard side in newbuild projects, including site supervision.
• Solid understanding of shipbuilding contracts, specifications, and variation order management.
• Experience with classification societies and flag-state approval processes, plus working knowledge of relevant IMO regulations.
• Proven experience managing budgets, schedules, and suppliers in complex projects.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Willingness to travel, including periods at the shipyard.
• Self-motivated, persistent, data-driven, quality-focused, comfortable presenting solutions, and able to carry tasks through to completion.

Nice to have

• Experience with specialised vessels such as construction vessels, anchor handlers, multicats, or workboats.
• Experience with dynamic positioning systems, deck handling equipment, and mission equipment integration.
• Experience with remotely operated or unmanned surface vessels, remote operations centres, autonomy or remote-control systems, and related class and regulatory approval processes.
• Background in offshore renewables, including wind, wave, or tidal energy, or in oil and gas.
