Risk Control Specialist Ocean Marine

Location: Hybrid; TX - Houston, with another location in TX - Dallas. The role requires a consistent field presence, with approximately 20%–50% of the time spent with customers onsite or virtually, including possible long-distance and overnight travel.

Annual base salary: $104,000–$171,700.

What you will do

• Conduct highly complex risk evaluations for customers, identify exposures and loss controls, and communicate findings to Underwriting, Claims, and Risk Control Lab partners.
• Consult with customers on risk management, educate them on recommended controls, and influence adoption of risk-reduction measures.
• Support underwriting execution, risk pricing, and claim handling through specialized technical solutions.
• Mentor Risk Control consultants and less experienced Specialists, including peer-reviewing survey reports and providing technical guidance and feedback.
• Track emerging issues and loss trends, build discipline expertise, and deliver targeted training to consultants, Specialists, customers, and business partners.

Requirements

• At least four years of risk assessment or consulting experience in Ocean Marine, Inland Marine, Workers' Compensation, Industrial Hygiene, or Ergonomics.
• Six or more years of experience with advanced proficiency in Ocean Marine, Inland Marine, Workers' Compensation, Industrial Hygiene, or Ergonomics.
• Valid driver's license.
• Certification in one or more recognized risk control disciplines, such as CIH, CPE, or CSP.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for simplifying complex technical information and presenting recommendations to audiences with varying expertise.
• Coaching and talent development skills, including mentoring, motivating others, and providing feedback.
• Comprehensive understanding of risk control's role in commercial lines insurance products, services, and risk selection practices.
• Advanced interpersonal and influencing skills, strong organization, and time management.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a science discipline.
