Senior Software Engineer I (Observability)

Location: Hybrid, based within commutable distance of hirify.global’s Brooklyn office; team members are expected to come into the office once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commuting distance may be considered case by case, with occasional travel to the office expected. The role is limited to U.S. geographic pay zones.

Salary: $159,000–$215,000 annual in Geo-1 or $143,000–$193,000 annual in Geo-2, plus equity and an annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Build and support the telemetry stack, including Prometheus, Grafana, BigQuery, StatsD, Vector, Google Cloud Logging, and Honeycomb.
• Design and maintain reliable, highly scalable observability systems for services and infrastructure running across virtual machines and containers.
• Develop tools and services to collect, store, and analyze metrics, logs, and traces at petabyte and million-scale volumes.
• Improve time to detect, diagnose, and resolve issues while supporting a 99.95% availability target.
• Contribute across the infrastructure stack using Chef, Terraform, Kubernetes, Go, Prometheus, Envoy, and OpenTelemetry.
• Collaborate with developers and security, product engineering, risk, and database infrastructure teams on instrumentation, telemetry, and downstream impacts.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of recent experience in observability systems or developer tooling roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
• Professional experience implementing or actively using metrics, logging, and tracing systems.
• Experience delivering multiple large, successful projects in a team environment, including projects lasting many months or longer.
• Proficiency in at least one of PHP, Python, or Go.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and configuration management tools such as Chef or Ansible.
• Ability to independently tackle well-scoped problems, improve existing code, and work effectively within team guidelines.
• Strong communication, empathy, technical judgment, and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to reliability and high availability.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud architectures such as GCP or AWS.
• Exposure to Kubernetes or other container orchestration frameworks.
• Experience working with flexible, distributed teams.
