Software Engineer II, Observability

Location: Hybrid role based within commutable distance of hirify.global’s Brooklyn office; team members are expected to attend the office once or twice per week depending on proximity. Remote candidates outside commuting distance may be considered case by case, with occasional travel to the office expected.

Salary: USD 138,000–186,000 annually in Geo-1 and USD 124,000–168,000 annually in Geo-2, depending on location, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Build and support the observability telemetry stack, including Prometheus, Grafana, BigQuery, StatsD, Vector, Google Cloud Logging, and Honeycomb.
• Improve visibility into services and infrastructure running across virtual machines and containers.
• Design, develop, and implement scalable, maintainable systems across the infrastructure stack using Chef, Terraform, Kubernetes, Go, Prometheus, Envoy, and OpenTelemetry.
• Design reliable systems supporting 99.95% availability and work with large-scale telemetry consisting of petabytes of logs, millions of metrics, and traces.
• Build developer tooling and observability services that collect, store, and analyze telemetry data.
• Collaborate with developers and security, product engineering, risk, and database infrastructure teams to address telemetry needs and understand downstream and upstream impacts.

Requirements

• At least two years of recent experience in observability systems or developer tooling roles, preferably in a cloud environment.
• Experience delivering multiple large, successful projects within a team, including projects lasting several months or longer.
• Professional experience implementing or actively using metrics, logging, and tracing systems.
• Proficiency in at least one of PHP, Python, or Go.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform and configuration management tooling such as Chef or Ansible.
• Ability to independently tackle well-scoped problems within team guidelines.
• Ability to improve code written by others and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud architectures such as GCP or AWS.
• Exposure to Kubernetes or other container orchestration frameworks.
• Experience working with flexible, distributed teams.
