Staff Developer Platform Engineer (Kubernetes)

Location: US - Remote; must be based in the USA. Occasional meetings with US- and EMEA-based teams may take place outside standard local hours.

Salary: $183,125–$200,450 annually, plus potential bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Evolve GitLab at scale in GCP/GKE, including governance, permissions, runners, and pipeline infrastructure.
• Design and operate pipeline orchestration and progressive-delivery systems using Argo Rollouts and Kargo, including automated promotion and rollback.
• Support build, release, and deployment pipelines for third-party connectors, including ODBC-based connectors.
• Build deployment-safety, database change-management, rollback, and recovery practices for distributed cloud systems.
• Develop self-service tooling, AI SDLC systems, developer insights, FinOps capabilities, and ephemeral development environments.
• Coach engineers, collaborate with Staff Engineers and architects, and drive organization-wide adoption through roadmaps and stakeholder alignment.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps/Platform Engineer, or SRE, with Staff-level scope and impact.
• Deep hands-on experience administering GitLab or a comparable SCM/CI platform at scale.
• Experience designing and operating CI/CD orchestration and progressive-delivery systems such as Argo Rollouts or Kargo.
• Strong experience with safe deployment, rollback, recovery, and database change management for large distributed cloud systems.
• Solid knowledge of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud infrastructure; GCP experience is preferred.
• Experience mentoring engineers, collaborating across teams, and driving adoption of tooling and engineering practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted platform tooling, test infrastructure, observability, or tracing.
• Exposure to ODBC or similar third-party database connector ecosystems.
• Familiarity with FinOps, developer productivity metrics, quality-of-life tooling, software architecture, or asynchronous systems.
• Product-management-adjacent experience with roadmapping, stakeholder alignment, and adoption strategy.
