Engineering Manager (Software Development)

Location: Cardiff, United Kingdom; hybrid working with 1–2 days in the office.

Salary: £55,088–£68,860 per year, negotiable depending on experience.

What you will do

• Lead business-critical development projects, maintenance, and support activities for assessment systems.
• Plan, coordinate, and track product engineering delivery across change requests, projects, workstreams, and the software development lifecycle.
• Lead internal and external engineering teams, including line management and participation in Scrum ceremonies, to deliver quality solutions within agreed timelines and budgets.
• Coordinate operational readiness, releases, risk management, stakeholder communications, and transition into business-as-usual support; occasional weekend work may be required.
• Assess and manage suppliers, service-level agreements, technology costs, licensing, third-party suppliers, and headcount budgets.
• Coach, appraise, and develop team members while removing operational, managerial, and technical impediments.

Requirements

• Experience leading globally distributed teams and working effectively across locations and time zones.
• Extensive understanding of software development practices and the software development lifecycle.
• Proven experience managing development teams across both project delivery and production support.
• Scrum Master experience.
• Experience managing external service providers and supplier relationships.
• Experience with software management tools such as Azure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
• Strong organisation, multitasking, analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills.

Nice to have

• Scrum Master certification.
