Software Engineering Manager (AWS)

What you will do

• Lead the technical direction of a backend and integrations squad while contributing to services, APIs, infrastructure, and technical spikes.
• Design and deliver synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven integrations using cloud-native patterns.
• Build reusable domain services, APIs, events, and data flows connecting customer journeys, operational processes, and enterprise platforms.
• Guide incremental modernisation of legacy services through migration, reconciliation, replay, parallel running, and rollback approaches.
• Build and coach a high-performing engineering team, manage capacity, and support recruitment and career development.
• Own service health, observability, incident response, resilience, security, and continuous engineering improvement.

Requirements

• Experience leading a backend or integration engineering team while remaining technically hands-on.
• Strong software engineering experience with TypeScript or a comparable modern backend language.
• Practical knowledge of REST APIs, messaging, event-driven architecture, distributed systems, and integration design patterns.
• Experience designing and operating AWS cloud-native services, including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS/SNS, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC networking.
• Experience with Terraform, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, resilience, security, and production support.
• Experience modernising legacy systems or delivering complex transformation programmes with multiple dependencies.

Nice to have

• Experience with middle-office, financial-services, or other regulated operational platforms.
• Knowledge of data pipelines, data quality, reconciliation, and cloud data platforms such as Snowflake.
• Experience with domain-driven design, schema governance, contract testing, service ownership, and controlled legacy decommissioning.
