TL;DR
Principal Platform Engineer (AWS): Architecting and evolving secure, scalable cloud platforms, internal developer tooling, and automation for GovTech SaaS with an accent on AWS, platform engineering, DevOps, and AI/ML infrastructure. Focus on designing self-service infrastructure, enabling LLM deployment and orchestration, embedding security and resilience, and influencing technical strategy across product teams.
Location: Hybrid in Sydney or Wollongong, Australia

What you will do
- Define the architecture, standards and roadmap for AWS cloud platforms, DevOps tooling and internal developer platforms.
- Build scalable self-service infrastructure and developer tooling that improve engineering productivity.
- Establish CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, repository management and deployment automation practices.
- Design and manage AI/ML infrastructure, including LLM management platforms, model deployment pipelines and AI service orchestration.
- Embed security, governance, scalability, reliability and cost optimisation into platform engineering practices.
- Partner with senior technology leaders, mentor engineers and influence architecture across product teams.
Requirements
- Valid NV1 Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
- Extensive experience designing and architecting complex, production-grade AWS environments.
- Strong hands-on experience with platform engineering, internal developer platforms and self-service infrastructure.
- Deep expertise in DevOps, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, CloudFormation or GitLab.
- Experience with microservices, containers, serverless technologies, distributed systems, cloud security and networking.
- Programming and automation experience with Python, Go or Java, plus experience influencing technical strategy and mentoring engineers.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI/ML infrastructure, LLM platforms, model deployment or AI service orchestration.
- Experience with Backstage or similar developer portal technologies.
- Experience with ISO 27001, IRAP, NZISM or Essential Eight security frameworks and cloud cost optimisation.
