TL;DR
Hardware Testing Engineer - Body & Joints (Humanoid Robotics): Building and validating full-scale humanoid robots and high-torque joint actuators with an accent on system integration, environmental qualification, dynamic performance, and hardware reliability. Focus on designing automated whole-body tests, analyzing mechanical and electrical failures, establishing reliability boundaries through HALT/HASS, and defining pilot-production verification procedures.

Location: On-site in Shanghai, China

Company

Developing next-generation commercial humanoid robots with an AI-first approach combining perception, reasoning, dexterous manipulation, and continuous learning.

What you will do

  • Lead whole-body humanoid system integration, end-to-end functional validation, dynamic motion profiling, and full-robot reliability testing.
  • Design and execute tests for dynamic locomotion, heavy-payload manipulation, complex-terrain navigation, fall recovery, balance stability, and structural reliability.
  • Perform mechanical and environmental qualification, including drop shock, dynamic payload capacity, vibration sweeps, thermal dissipation, and ingress protection verification.
  • Support motor and actuator testing, joint-module performance validation, and thermal-limit evaluations.
  • Perform root-cause failure analysis on gears, bearings, motor windings, and structural components using 8D and FMEA methodologies.
  • Establish reliability boundaries with HALT and HASS, define quality acceptance criteria and testing SOPs, and maintain calibration, battery-safety protocols, and testing infrastructure.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hardware testing and reliability engineering experience in whole-body robotic systems, complex electromechanical platforms, motor drive systems, or aerospace actuators.
  • Proficiency with system-level instrumentation and testing tools, including motion capture or tracking systems, environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, CAN analyzers, strain gauges, accelerometers, and thermal cameras.
  • Strong experience designing test scenarios, writing test cases, and using automated testing software or scripting tools such as Python, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
  • Ability to work with motor engineers to evaluate joint and motor performance data and support motor validation testing.
  • Deep technical understanding of mechanical failure modes, including gear fatigue, harmonic wave-generator wear, and bearing pitting, as well as thermal dynamics in high-power BLDC motors.
  • Knowledge of international ISO, IEC, and MIL-STD requirements for vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and electrical safety.
  • Methodical approach to data analysis, documentation, and technical reporting.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience testing high-torque frameless BLDC motors, harmonic or planetary reducers, or humanoid joint modules.
  • Experience with structural fatigue testing of aluminum-alloy limbs.
  • Knowledge of functional safety testing and high-voltage DC safety protocols.
  • Comfort communicating technical topics in English with international teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • On-site work in a new robotics engineering center in China.
  • International engineering environment with collaboration across headquarters and China-based engineering teams.
  • Opportunity to contribute to the development of a full-size humanoid robotics platform from initial development through production.
  • Competitive compensation.
