Forward Deployed Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Shanghai, China; based in Shanghai with long stretches on-site at partner locations in the region; extensive travel and prolonged partner-site assignments required.

What you will do

• Own the technical side of strategic partner engagements from scoping and deployment through live operation, review, and results delivery.
• Deploy, configure, and maintain Carri autonomous delivery robots, including mapping, route setup, elevator and door integrations, and connections to partner operations.
• Rapidly prototype and deploy apps, API integrations, dashboards, customer-machine interfaces, and hybrid robot-human workflows on the Carri platform.
• Build business cases with partners using cost savings, revenue, throughput, service levels, operational data, and P&L considerations.
• Monitor robot and fleet performance, lead incident follow-ups, and convert field learnings, requests, and feedback into prioritised Product and Engineering roadmap input.
• Act as the trusted technical contact for partners and collaborate with Business Development, Operations, engineers, and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience, ideally with robotics, autonomous systems, IoT, or other field-deployed hardware and software products.
• Strong Python skills and working knowledge of C++, with comfort using Linux, networking, and field-system debugging.
• Experience with ROS or ROS 2 and robotics fundamentals including localisation, navigation, sensors, and fleet management.
• Ability to build end-to-end solutions quickly, including apps, API integrations, and dashboards, using modern development tools and AI-assisted coding.
• Proven direct customer experience, including running workshops, managing expectations, and explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Commercial awareness and ability to discuss unit economics and P&L with partners and turn operational data into a business case.
• Strong ownership, independence, and ability to work as the only hirify.global engineer on site.
• Willingness to travel extensively and spend long periods at partner sites; professional Mandarin knowledge is required.

• Experience with facility systems such as elevators, access control, and building management.
