Associate Design Director (Visual/UI/UX Design)

Location: Amsterdam/Rotterdam, Netherlands; hybrid with 2–3 days per week in the office depending on location. Work from abroad is available for up to 13 weeks per year.

What you will do

• Own craft direction across complex projects and accounts, ensuring high-quality, consistent work aligned with hirify.global’s standards.
• Define design standards, improve processes, and enable teams to deliver consistently exceptional work.
• Guide clients and multidisciplinary internal teams with high-level creative and product direction beyond the brief.
• Drive innovation through experimentation, curiosity, and work that sets benchmarks and wins awards.
• Evolve the design practice, build team capabilities, mentor talent, and foster continuous learning.
• Support pitches and growth opportunities and represent hirify.global externally through talks, posts, and publications.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in visual, UI, or UX design, including 3+ years at senior or leadership level.
• Portfolio demonstrating strategic impact, systems thinking, and high-quality execution across complex digital ecosystems.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to influence product, design, and business decisions through clear vision and rationale.
• Recognised design voice able to inspire teams, elevate craft standards, and contribute to the wider design community.
• Active mentorship through coaching, structured feedback, and knowledge sharing.
• Curiosity and willingness to master emerging tools, AI workflows, motion, and design trends.
• Deep understanding of visual principles, accessibility, and modern interaction patterns.
• Mastery of Figma and design systems.
• Confident communication and ability to articulate design direction with clarity and conviction.
• Working proficiency in Dutch and English.

Nice to have

• Motion design skills, including Jitter or After Effects.
