Litigation Paralegal (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid; one day per week in the Northbrook, Illinois office, with additional onsite attendance as needed for trial preparation or other business needs. Candidates must be able and willing to commute to Northbrook, Illinois and work onsite when required.

Salary: $30–$43 per hour, depending on experience. Overtime is paid at 1.5× the regular hourly rate.

What you will do

• Assist attorneys with propounding and responding to discovery, including interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for production, subpoenas, and deposition binders.
• Prepare supporting documents and exhibits for motions and hearing binders.
• Coordinate trial preparation, including witnesses and travel, trial exhibits, charts, trial notebooks, subpoenas, and page lines.
• Obtain, review, and organize medical records and medical billings; calculate damages for medical expenses, lost wages, and property damage.
• Communicate routinely with clients, experts, and attorneys regarding case status and preparation.
• Work collaboratively with attorneys and colleagues at all experience levels while taking ownership of assigned work.

Requirements

• Paralegal certification.
• 3–5 years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
• Experience with litigation in the state of Illinois is highly encouraged.
• Solid understanding of civil litigation, including state and federal deadlines and rules.
• Ability to work in the office one day per week and as needed for trial preparation at 707 Combined Centre on Skokie Blvd, Northbrook, Illinois.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
• Ability to think and act independently with minimal supervision.
• Articulate, organized, and collaborative, with excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and professional appearance and demeanor.
