Compartment Integration Design Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan, United States; expected to report to the specified location at least 3 times a week. Relocation benefits are available for qualifying candidates.

What you will do

• Integrate engineering requirements with Architecture, Studio, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams during early vehicle development.
• Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights and develop, refine, and finalize engineering criteria for package design.
• Lead integrated technical solutions for packaging issues while preserving design intent and balancing cost, mass, timing, assembly, variation, and other program imperatives using DFSS methodologies.
• Develop space claims, package solutions, NX models, digital and physical design surfaces, clay models, clinic properties, and VR/MR mockups.
• Lead surface and integration forums, support Math Virtual Assessments and Synch Point reviews, and drive issue resolution and escalation.
• Benchmark competitive vehicles and prepare presentations, reports, meeting agendas, minutes, and technical documentation covering concepts, status, risks, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, Engineering Technology, Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in automotive engineering, vehicle integration, packaging, or related areas.
• Strong understanding of engineering theory and automotive design principles, with the ability to integrate complex systems and solve complex technical problems analytically.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and their impact on design feasibility.
• Proficiency with Siemens NX / Unigraphics CAD tools and a basic understanding of engineering specifications.
• Experience managing engineering deliverables, issue tracking, and program execution for assigned systems.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle regularly; successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review is required for use of a company vehicle.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Passion for automotive design, customer-focused package development, and innovative vehicle solutions.
• DFSS certification or Green Belt/Black Belt certification.
• Coursework or experience in statistics, mechanics of materials, vehicle and occupant packaging, or integrated design.
• Experience integrating underhood systems and components, including CRFM-to-dash space, sheet metal parts, drive units, suspension, brakes, exhaust, RESS, and charge-related hardware.
• Ability to assess groundlines, nominal tire placement, tire envelopes/flops, turning circle, towing, shipping, and jacking requirements.
• Experience leading or supporting CITs, packaging reviews, and cross-functional issue-resolution forums.
• Experience with Agile ways of working and Jira for issue tracking and team coordination.
