Staff Software Engineer - Core Services (TypeScript)

Location: Hybrid, requiring two days in the San Francisco office every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Base pay: $150,000–$200,000 per year, excluding bonus, benefits, and perks.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, integration, and adoption of shared platform capabilities across engineering teams.
• Design, build, and maintain high-performance TypeScript APIs and foundational services.
• Design and promote event-based architectures for reliable, loosely coupled service communication.
• Own authentication and authorization capabilities, including third-party identity platforms and partner integrations.
• Integrate shared services with Ruby on Rails backend infrastructure and improve platform performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
• Mentor engineers and partner with Engineering and Product leadership on the technical strategy for shared services.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing modern APIs and distributed services.
• Hands-on experience with authentication and identity platforms such as Auth0, Okta, or Cognito, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SSO.
• Experience designing and operating event-based architectures such as Kafka, SNS/SQS, or EventBridge.
• Experience building and maintaining robust TypeScript-based APIs and services.
• Strong technical design and architecture skills focused on scalable shared capabilities.
• Professional experience with AI-led agentic software development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Experience with modern software development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments.
• Ability to mentor engineers, communicate complex technical subjects clearly, and break down complex platform initiatives into high-impact iterations.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS, infrastructure as code, and Kubernetes.
• Experience with relational and key-value datastores such as MySQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
• Experience with Backend-for-Frontend design patterns, API gateways, rate limiting, and securing service-to-service communication.
• Professional experience with Ruby on Rails, including extending large existing Rails applications.
