Staff Software Engineer, Backend (AI)

Location: Hybrid; must live within commuting distance of the New York City, Tempe, or Los Angeles offices and work from the office at least two days per week.

Base pay: $192,000–$252,000 per year, plus benefits, equity grants, and annual performance bonuses.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, planning, execution, and release of complex technical projects across multiple teams.
• Develop scalable and reliable claims and payment processing systems, including contract and pricing configuration, an internal DSL, and data pipelines.
• Serve as a subject matter expert across relevant business and technical domains and influence technical and product roadmaps.
• Lead and mentor engineers, improve engineering practices, and set direction for teams and cross-functional initiatives.
• Identify and reduce failure domains, improve maintainability during incidents, and guide Service-Level Objectives for responsible systems.
• Collaborate with partners, product managers, designers, leadership, and internal customers to deliver complex technology capabilities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading cross-pod or cross-company deliverables and technical contributions.
• 5+ years applying computer science concepts and setting standards for stable, correct, and maintainable code.
• 5+ years leading technical teams, including mentoring and training junior engineers.
• Must live within commuting distance of the New York City, Tempe, or Los Angeles office and work onsite at least two days per week.
