Product Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA; on-site

Compensation: $220K–$250K annually, plus equity

Builds a customer-facing AI agent platform for major brands, with a primarily in-person company based in San Francisco and offices across North America, Europe, and Asia.

What you will do

• Provide end-to-end product legal support to Product and Engineering teams from concept through launch across the agent platform and new products.
• Integrate compliance, privacy-by-design principles, and AI transparency measures into product development.
• Advise Agent Development teams on consumer protection, telecommunications, voice and messaging, and requirements for regulated customers.
• Develop scalable product review processes, launch checklists, and self-service legal guidance.
• Advise on emerging AI regulations and partner with the privacy team on AI governance policies and responsible AI deployment.
• Monitor legal developments and advise product leadership on risks, trends, and design implications.

Requirements

• 4+ years of legal experience combining large international law firm and in-house experience at a technology company.
• Experience advising product and engineering teams on new product development, ideally involving AI/ML, communications, or platform products.
• Working knowledge of product-related privacy law, including GDPR and CCPA; AI regulatory frameworks, including the EU AI Act and NIST AI Risk Management Framework; consumer protection; and intellectual property.
• Ability to partner with technical teams and understand all aspects of the product offering.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to balance legal risks with business objectives in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to partner with legal and non-legal stakeholders.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality work.
• Team-oriented approach, including sharing knowledge and helping colleagues succeed.

Nice to have

• Experience with voice or telephony products and related regulations, including TCPA and state call-recording laws.
• Experience counseling on products sold to regulated industries such as healthcare and financial services.
• Familiarity with machine learning models and associated risks.
• Experience developing trust and safety or responsible AI programs.
• Startup experience and comfort with rapid iteration and ambiguity.
