Cloud Platform Engineer (AWS)

Location: McLean, Virginia, United States; hybrid workplace

Salary: $70,000–$110,000 per year, depending on experience, technical depth, certifications, and overall qualifications.

What you will do

• Support daily operation of AWS platform services, including monitoring, logging, access control, patching, backups, and configuration management.
• Resolve operational tickets, escalate complex issues, and maintain clear documentation.
• Automate recurring manual tasks through scripting, standardized deployment patterns, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Contribute to Terraform and CloudFormation work under senior engineer guidance.
• Help onboard workloads to platform services and maintain accurate runbooks, procedures, and system documentation.
• Collaborate with Cloud Engineers, Solutions Architects, and Cybersecurity staff to meet DoD security and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• 0–3 years of experience in cloud, DevOps, systems administration, IT infrastructure, or a related field; internships, labs, and military experience count.
• AWS certification, or the ability to obtain one within the first 90 days.
• Working knowledge of AWS EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, and CloudWatch.
• Basic scripting ability in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Familiarity with Linux and Git-based workflows.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust determination.

Nice to have

• AWS Associate-level certification.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Hands-on Terraform or CloudFormation experience, including personal or academic projects.
• Exposure to Docker and ECS/EKS.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab and Jenkins.
• Prior work in a federal or DoD environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
