Product Applications Engineer (MOCVD)

Location: Somerset, New Jersey, United States; travel up to 65% domestically and internationally to customer sites and hirify.global facilities.

Salary: $105,456–$140,608 annually, plus bonus opportunity.

What you will do

• Partner with customer development and production teams to translate materials, epitaxy, and device-performance objectives into MOCVD process support plans.
• Execute process demonstrations, system startup activities, installations, and customer-site application support for As/P MOCVD systems.
• Operate MOCVD equipment and develop process understanding across reactor operation, recipe control, hardware-process interactions, and epitaxial film performance.
• Characterize epitaxial films and device structures using X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, particle analysis, surface inspection, and electrical measurements.
• Troubleshoot epitaxial uniformity, material quality, reactor behavior, process control, and customer-facing performance issues.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, and Marketing on demonstrations, presentations, design reviews, product planning, new product development, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field with 5+ years of related experience; or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of related experience; or a PhD in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Hands-on experience with epitaxial growth of compound semiconductor materials such as GaAs, InP, GaN, SiC, or related III-V or wide-bandgap materials.
• Understanding of how equipment design and operation affect the epitaxial growth process.
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining MOCVD process equipment, particularly for As/P and GaN materials.
• Experience with characterization methods including X-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, particle measurement, surface inspection, electrical testing, or related analytical techniques.
• Ability to work independently on day-to-day technical assignments, seek guidance appropriately, evaluate data, identify root causes, and recommend practical solutions.
• Ability to build productive relationships with internal teams, external customers, and senior technical personnel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex technical information to customers, cross-functional teams, and larger audiences.
• Curiosity, ownership, urgency, and a hands-on approach to complex process and equipment-related problems.

Nice to have

• Experience with MOCVD process development, reactor operation, process transfer, customer demonstrations, or field applications support.
• Experience with compound semiconductor device structures, device fabrication flows, or device performance characterization.
• Prior experience working directly with customers, cross-functional engineering teams, or production environments.
