Design Engineer 3 (Outdoor Power Equipment)

Location: Anderson, SC, United States; up to 10% international and domestic travel.

Outdoor Engineering develops production-ready outdoor power equipment systems and subsystems in collaboration with product, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and global supplier teams.

What you will do

• Own mechanical design execution for assigned components, sub-assemblies, and systems from concept and layout through detailed CAD, validation, and production release.
• Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks, and specifications covering performance, safety, durability, compliance, and manufacturability.
• Analyze design trade-offs involving performance, cost, weight, manufacturability, and reliability, and resolve design, field, and manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving methods.
• Design components for high-volume manufacturing, assembly efficiency, tooling capability, and supplier process constraints while supporting cost and quality objectives.
• Define DFMEA inputs and design verification plans, execute tolerance, stress, durability, environmental, and abuse testing, and use test data to refine designs.
• Support pilot builds, PPAP, production ramp-up, certifications, audits, failure investigations, engineering changes, deviations, and corrective actions while communicating with cross-functional and global supplier teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 4 years of design experience in consumer, industrial, or electromechanical products.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD, including Creo, SolidWorks, NX, or an equivalent tool, plus detailed drawings and GD&T.
• Experience with materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, and supplier-built components.
• Experience leading design verification and validation activities using data-driven methods.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, results-driven product development environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with outdoor power equipment, power tools, small engines, or high-load electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on experience supporting pilot builds and production ramp-ups.
• Familiarity with global supplier collaboration and Asia-based manufacturing.
• Experience supporting UL, CSA, or ANSI compliance activities.
