Senior Research & Development Test Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Onsite in Santa Clara, California, United States; no travel requirement

Salary: $115,200–$172,800 per year

What you will do

• Lead system-level verification and validation planning, execution, documentation, and reporting across product development programs.
• Develop strategies for testing mechanical, electrical, and software system components.
• Design and execute test methods, method validations, protocols, fixtures, laboratory tests, simulated-use tests, and user validation studies.
• Analyze test results, investigate failures, and recommend corrective actions to improve product performance and reliability.
• Support design reviews, risk management, design input traceability, regulatory compliance, and design transfer.
• Provide technical leadership to engineers and external development partners while collaborating with manufacturing, quality, regulatory, marketing, and human factors teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a scientific discipline with 4+ years of technical testing or engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 2+ years of experience.
• Experience leading system-level verification and validation planning, execution, and documentation.
• Knowledge of software development principles and electrical engineering fundamentals.
• Experience using electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
• Experience working independently and within cross-functional product development teams.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at hire and throughout employment; sponsorship is not available for roles below Principal level.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, or defense.
• Experience testing systems integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components.
• Knowledge of IEC 60601, electrical safety testing, and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
• Experience with design input traceability, risk management, V-model development, Design for Reliability and Manufacturability, and ex vivo tissue testing.
