Senior Research & Development Test Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Onsite in Santa Clara, California, United States. No travel is required.

Salary: $115,200–$172,800 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Develop and execute system-level verification and validation strategies for medical device systems integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components.
• Create test methods, protocols, validation plans, and engineering reports supporting product development and regulatory requirements.
• Plan and perform verification and validation testing, analyze results, assess risks, and document findings.
• Collaborate with systems engineering, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, human factors, and marketing teams to define test requirements and design inputs.
• Lead design reviews and risk management activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Conduct testing in simulated-use and ex-vivo tissue environments, communicate technical findings, and provide guidance to internal and external development partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a scientific discipline and 4+ years of technical testing, verification and validation, systems engineering, or product development experience.
• Experience leading system-level verification and validation planning, execution, and documentation for complex products or systems.
• Experience testing medical devices or similar products in ex-vivo tissue environments.
• Working knowledge of software development principles, electrical engineering fundamentals, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
• Experience working in a regulated industry and supporting products that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software subsystems.
• Unrestricted U.S. work authorization is required at hire and throughout employment; sponsorship is not available for roles below Principal level.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of IEC 60601 standards, electrical safety testing, and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
• Experience with requirements traceability from system design inputs through verification and validation results.
• Experience leading systems engineering activities across the full V-model product development lifecycle.
