Accounting Manager (AI)

Location: Hybrid and remote-first, with Ottawa or Toronto preferred; Canada

Salary: $120,000–$140,000 CAD per year base salary

What you will do

• Lead and develop the Accounts Payable team, prioritizing accurate and timely processing, payments, and reconciliations.
• Map accounting and Procure-to-Pay workflows to identify manual tasks, handoffs, bottlenecks, and recurring errors.
• Build and deliver an automation roadmap supporting touchless processing, controls, and exception handling.
• Own AI, automation, system implementation, and process improvement projects from discovery and requirements through design, testing, training, adoption, and measurement.
• Ensure changes correctly connect purchasing, receiving, invoice matching, vendor management, approvals, payments, reconciliations, the general ledger, and the P&L.
• Partner with Accounting, business teams, Partner Managers, Distribution Centers, and systems teams to improve controls, audit trails, documentation, reporting, and operational metrics.

Requirements

• Experience as an Accounting Manager with a strong foundation in full-cycle accounting, general ledger, reconciliations, period-end close, audit requirements, and P&L.
• Broad accounting knowledge sufficient to assess how AP and purchasing changes affect expense recognition, account balances, controls, and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated experience implementing AI and automation in accounting or finance workflows, from opportunity identification through implementation, testing, adoption, and results measurement.
• Experience delivering an accounting or finance system implementation, integration, or significant workflow redesign with clear ownership of the outcome.
• Practical knowledge of Procure-to-Pay processes, including vendor invoices, purchase orders, approvals, matching, payments, and reconciliations.
• People management experience, including coaching, prioritizing work, and helping teams adopt new systems and processes.
• Strong ERP knowledge and understanding of how transactions move between operational systems and the general ledger.
• Ability to investigate broad problems, bring the right people together, and deliver improvements with minimal direction.
• Clear communication skills and ability to translate accounting requirements into practical solutions with business and technical partners.

Nice to have

• CPA designation and Big Four audit experience.
• Private industry accounting experience following public practice.
• Experience in wholesale, distribution, manufacturing, retail, CPG, or another purchasing- and physical-inventory-focused business.
• Inventory accounting knowledge covering purchasing, receiving, inventory balances, and related financial statement expenses.
• Hands-on experience with NetSuite, SPS Commerce EDI, or similar ERP and transaction integration tools.
• Practical experience applying ChatGPT or Claude to accounting work, including validating outputs and improving processes.
