Staff Fullstack Engineer - Platform - App Core Usage | US | Remote

Location: Remote, United States or Canada; preference for candidates in NASA’s Eastern Time zone to overlap with EMEA colleagues. In-person onboarding is required.

Salary: $174,986–$209,983 USD per year in the United States; country-specific compensation applies elsewhere. RSUs are included.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and improve backend services and APIs for billing, rates, usage calculations, usage visibility, and cloud marketplace workflows.
• Develop primarily in Go, work with Node.js, and contribute to TypeScript/React applications across the stack.
• Improve billing correctness and reliability through validation, reconciliation, error handling, recovery, auditability, and traceability.
• Maintain Kubernetes workloads, scheduled jobs, cloud resources, infrastructure as code, deployment configuration, and automated delivery pipelines.
• Investigate production issues across application code, databases, and infrastructure; plan deployments, database changes, migrations, monitoring, and recovery.
• Collaborate with product management, Support, DealOps, GTM, infrastructure teams, and adjacent AppCore squads; provide technical leadership through design discussions, reviews, mentoring, and on-call participation.

Requirements

• Substantial experience designing, delivering, and operating production backend systems, with the depth to lead complex work hands-on.
• Strong experience building and operating production backend systems in Go.
• Professional frontend experience with TypeScript and React, or comparable technologies, and willingness to work across the stack.
• Experience with distributed systems, including partial failures, retries, consistency, and service interactions.
• Experience with relational databases, including data modelling, schema migrations, query performance, and safe production changes.
• Practical experience deploying and troubleshooting containerised services and jobs in Kubernetes.
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure through code, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and controlled rollouts.
• Ability to investigate production problems using logs, metrics, and traces and turn findings into lasting improvements.
• Experience delivering projects end to end, clarifying requirements, making trade-offs, and following through after release.
• Experience working remotely with clear asynchronous communication and dependable collaboration across time zones.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar domains and technologies, adapt as new information emerges, and take ownership beyond the main area of expertise.
• Experience writing readable, well-tested software that other engineers can understand, maintain, and operate.
• Willingness to participate in on-call and take responsibility for production behaviour.
• Experience supporting colleagues through code reviews, mentoring, and constructive technical discussions.

Nice to have

• Experience with usage metering, billing engines, pricing and rates, financial reconciliation, or customer-facing cost management.
• Experience reducing operational toil, automating workflows, and working with auditability or financial-control requirements.
• MySQL operations, replication, database upgrades, and performance tuning.
• Terraform, Jsonnet, Kubernetes deployment configuration, Argo Workflows, or comparable orchestration tooling.
• GCP infrastructure involving managed databases, object storage, service accounts, and access controls.
• Data synchronisation pipelines, BigQuery integrations, and cloud marketplace integrations across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Integrations with NetSuite or Salesforce and observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or OpenTelemetry.
