Sr. Software Development Engineer (AI)

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; Flex hybrid work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, or partners.

Annual base salary: $176,000–$264,000 USD for the primary location; $148,200–$264,000 USD for additional US locations. The role may also be eligible for a bonus or commission plan and annual refresh stock grants.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain critical components of the enterprise messaging and email platform.
• Develop and scale multi-channel messaging services, templates, and deliverability infrastructure for SMS, WhatsApp, push notifications, and email.
• Design, develop, and operate high-performing, resilient, secure microservices supporting high-volume enterprise email delivery.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Security, and engineering teams to deliver email capabilities.
• Evaluate technologies and third-party messaging and email providers, build prototypes, and optimize throughput and deliverability.
• Participate in code and design reviews, improve engineering practices, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of related software engineering experience, including deep expertise building and operating high-scale distributed systems and platform services.
• 5+ years with modern programming languages such as Java, Kotlin, Go, or C++, plus object-oriented design, REST/gRPC API development, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
• 5+ years designing and building scalable distributed systems, including event-driven microservices or messaging platforms, while following architectural best practices.
• Ability to execute feature roadmaps and shape the technical direction of messaging services in alignment with platform goals.
• Track record of collaboration with product, design, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Commitment to clean, maintainable code and high standards for testing, performance, security, and operational reliability.
• Strong analytical and pragmatic problem-solving skills, including building prototypes and evaluating trade-offs.
• Experience with code reviews, knowledge sharing, onboarding, or mentoring junior engineers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for explaining technical details to peers and collaborators.
