Java Application Architect

Location: 100% remote within the United States.

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually.

What you will do

• Architect, design, build, deploy, and maintain enterprise-grade web applications, cloud-native services, scalable Java microservices, and distributed systems.
• Develop secure, production-quality backend code, RESTful APIs, event-driven integrations, and responsive React-based front-end applications.
• Contribute to architecture and design decisions involving scalability, resiliency, maintainability, security, and cost efficiency.
• Profile and optimize application performance, database queries, JVM parameters, and API throughput.
• Build automated unit, integration, contract, and functional test suites and contribute to CI/CD pipeline design and deployment automation.
• Collaborate in Agile/Scrum teams, drive remediation of technical debt and architectural weaknesses, and maintain architecture diagrams, API specifications, deployment guides, and runbooks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• At least five years of professional software development experience building production-grade enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, computational complexity, and end-to-end system design principles.
• Advanced working knowledge of Java 11 and 17, Spring Boot, and clean, idiomatic RESTful API design.
• Production-level experience designing and operating microservices architectures, including service decomposition, inter-service communication, and observability.
• Production experience developing front-end applications with React.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server, including query tuning and schema design.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling and Git-based workflows, including branching strategies, code reviews, and release management.
• Experience deploying applications to at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP, including managed services, networking, and identity primitives.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills, with disciplined investigation and documentation.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Angular or Vue.
• Experience designing and operating event-driven architectures with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent streaming platforms.
• Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to eventual consistency, CAP trade-offs, idempotency, and saga patterns.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven or behavior-driven development.
