Electrical Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: Hybrid in Oakville, Ontario, Canada; approximately 20–25% travel, primarily to customer sites in the United States, with occasional international travel.

Base salary: $105,000–$130,000 CAD per year.

What you will do

• Lead complete electrical and controls design packages, including schematics and PLC/HMI program creation.
• Own end-to-end electrical design for machines and full packaging lines according to customer specifications and internal standards.
• Review and validate design documentation, electrical layouts, system architecture, and vendor documentation.
• Design or coordinate power distribution systems, including MCCs and PDPs.
• Provide technical guidance during equipment build, testing, and commissioning.
• Collaborate with controls teams on PLC/HMI integration and contribute to design standardization and improvements.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in Electrical or Controls Engineering with a strong programming focus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in industrial equipment, packaging, or manufacturing environments.
• Experience developing or interpreting schematics, panel layouts, and system architecture.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent design tools.
• Understanding of industrial networks and system integration.
• Experience with PLC programming using Allen Bradley or Siemens.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and technical documentation skills.
• Knowledge of North American electrical standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with FactoryTalk, Ignition, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to robotics, servo systems, and VFDs.
• P.Eng. designation.
