TL;DR
Mechatronics / Robotics Design Engineer (Photolithography): Designing, integrating, and testing mechatronic modules and control systems for advanced photolithography tools with an accent on precision handling, system integration, and verification. Focus on developing control solutions, analyzing flexible dynamics, validating complex modules, and resolving technical issues across the product life cycle.

Location: Wilton, Connecticut, United States; onsite presence is required, with a flexible workplace arrangement allowing remote work up to two days per week. Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Salary: $102,000–$150,000 annual base salary.

Company

Develops photolithography systems and advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

What you will do

  • Specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test mechatronic modules and tools for photolithography products.
  • Work on precision handling of delicate parts, mechatronics, control systems, software functionality, and product or system integration.
  • Identify and manage requirements with traceability, define specifications and interfaces, and coordinate verification criteria.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, develop engineering concepts, evaluate tradeoffs, and resolve issues affecting functionality, performance, cost, compliance, and schedule.
  • Plan and execute validation and testing, improve methods, and ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness.
  • Plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, maintain technical documentation, and collaborate with cross-functional partners and suppliers.

Requirements

  • MS in a relevant technical field required; MS or PhD preferred.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Background or specialization in mechatronics engineering, robotics, or a closely related field.
  • Direct experience designing and testing mechatronic systems and control systems, preferably with industrial robotics integration.
  • Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, and flexible dynamics.
  • Basic experience with predictive modeling of mechatronics behavior and methods in MATLAB/SIMULINK or similar tools, including first-principles engineering equations, particularly for control-system simulation and implementation.
  • Ability to apply classical and digital control theory, including frequency-domain analysis, Nyquist and Bode plots, velocity-acceleration-jerk, feedback/feedforward, dynamics, gain and phase, transfer functions, continuous/discrete feedback control, and real-time controls.
  • Ability to derive conclusions from analyses and make practical recommendations.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills in English, including presenting results supported by statistical evidence to audiences with varied technical abilities.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements; develop technical solutions; execute integration, verification, and validation; and coordinate dependencies and configuration traceability.
  • Ability to drive results, translate technical goals into execution plans, manage tradeoffs and risks, remove obstacles, and deliver quality work on schedule.
  • Ability to demonstrate self-awareness, use feedback, adapt behavior, and collaborate effectively in complex or high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to value and integrate diverse perspectives and working styles across cross-functional and multicultural stakeholders.
  • Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology under the United States Export Administration Regulations before beginning work, or be immediately eligible to access it.

Nice to have

  • Experience with magnetic linear actuators and magnetic levitation systems.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary projects involving imaging or optical systems, semiconductors, or lithography.

Culture & Benefits

  • Onsite collaboration, in-person work-related events, training, and meetings, with remote work available up to two days per week.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance for employees and their families.
  • Access to a 401(k) plan.
  • Eight hours of vacation leave per month and 13 paid holidays per calendar year.
  • Equal opportunity and inclusive workplace policies, with reasonable accommodations available for applicants and employees with disabilities.
  • The role may involve exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage, high currents, and physical activities including occasional lifting or moving of up to 20 pounds.
