Mechatronics Engineers (Robotics)

Location: Full-time on-site at the factory in South Deerfield, Western Massachusetts, USA; work across US and UK sites may be required.

Salary: $80K–$200K per year depending on experience, plus equity.

What you will do

• Own mechatronics projects end to end, from identifying factory-floor problems and writing specifications to delivering working machines.
• Develop mechanisms, gantries, end effectors, sensors, chemical-process equipment, and test robots for electronics handling and in-line PCB validation.
• Design systems in Fusion 360, perform engineering calculations, prototype parts in the in-house CNC shop, and analyze machine behavior from video.
• Program machine behavior on the in-house robotics operating system using AI agents and basic software engineering skills.
• Commission machines and hand them over to the build team for scale-up while taking responsibility for production performance, throughput, and reliability.
• Share learnings across US and UK sites and contribute to the engineering roadmap.

Requirements

• Previous experience building systems, ideally robots, as a hobbyist, student, employee, or founder.
• Ability to diagnose system-wide failures from first principles, prototype mechanical and software fixes, work autonomously, and communicate clearly with a distributed team.
• Experience programming machines using PLCs, robot controllers, embedded systems, or Python.
• Experience programming and running CNC machinery.
• Ability to design machines for chemical handling.
• Knowledge of optics.
• Ability to design in CAD, support designs with engineering calculations, prototype and machine parts, and develop basic machine software.
• Willingness to work hands-on on site and take responsibility for machine performance in live production.

• Experience building systems with exposure to robotics or automation.
• Experience taking parts and subsystems through to manufacture as part of a design team.
• Knowledge of designing for machining.
• Experience leading the build and deployment of large-scale automated systems.
• Experience writing software that controls self-designed machines.
• Experience designing for machining, sheet metal, and injection moulding.
• Experience mentoring more junior engineers.
• Strong interest in developing a career in practical robotics.
