Congressional Policy Lead (AI Policy)

Location: Washington, DC; hybrid or full-time in-person work required. Occasional travel to the Berkeley home office or other locations may be required.

Salary: $120,000–$180,000 per year, dependent on experience.

What you will do

• Act as the core expert on Congressional developments and policy strategy for the organization.
• Track Capitol Hill activity and plan around key Congressional calendar items, including must-pass legislation such as the NDAA.
• Brief Congressional offices and strengthen relationships with staff and elected officials.
• Develop floor-ready legislative proposals that offices can bring to legislative counsel for bill drafting.
• Advocate for policy recommendations with government, media, and nonprofit stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience effectively advocating for policy changes across diverse stakeholders and viewpoints.
• Understanding of DC policy processes, communities, and legislative mechanisms.
• Excellent oral briefing and meeting management skills.
• Familiarity with AI national security risks, including loss of control, recursive self-improvement, catastrophic misuse, and rapid capability growth.
• Ability to work in a project-based environment where priorities and deliverables may change every few months.
• Relevant contacts in DC, national media, or nonprofit organizations.
