Senior Software Engineer I (AI)

What you will do

• Design, build, test, deploy, scale, and operate the customer files orchestration service.
• Develop reliable Python services on AWS and Kubernetes for document upload, storage, extraction, embedding, and indexing workflows.
• Design distributed systems with durable state, asynchronous service boundaries, consistency models, delivery guarantees, and crash recovery.
• Build queuing, rate limiting, backpressure, circuit breaking, dead-letter handling, and autoscaling capabilities for high-volume multi-tenant workloads.
• Design versioned APIs with documented behavior, backward compatibility, and clear ownership.
• Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, post-mortems, observability improvements, automation, and cross-team technical collaboration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of experience building production software and owning significant components of customer-facing systems.
• Extensive production experience with Python, AWS, concurrent applications, and asyncio-based workflows.
• Production Kubernetes experience, including KEDA event-driven autoscaling, scaler tuning, resource requests, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with orchestration services or data pipelines, queues, rate limiting, backpressure, idempotent processing, retries, and partial failures.
• Strong engineering fundamentals in testing, code review, observability, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, incident response, and technical communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with document processing, OCR, file formats, large-file workflows, or document management integrations.
• Experience with Kafka, MSK, SQS, event-driven architectures, or streaming technologies.
• Experience with Temporal, AWS Step Functions, or other durable workflow engines.
• Experience with retrieval, embedding, or indexing pipelines for LLM or agentic applications.
• Legal industry experience or familiarity with Team Topologies concepts.
