Lead Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Remote in Mexico

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and own backend services from concept through production.
• Lead design reviews, define technical direction, and make architecture decisions for the squad.
• Mentor engineers through pairing, code reviews, and coaching.
• Drive testing strategy, observability, engineering standards, and predictable delivery.
• Use AI for architecture exploration, large refactors, risk modeling, and squad-level tools such as smart alerting and test generation.
• Lead incident response and blameless postmortems.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems at scale.
• Strong Java experience; Python or Go experience is beneficial.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
• Expert-level debugging across service boundaries and experience balancing scalability, reliability, and delivery speed.
• Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical discussions, communicating trade-offs, and working with ambiguity.
• Fluent Spanish and working knowledge of English are required.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or lending.
• Familiarity with Mexican financial regulation, including CNBV and Condusef.
• On-call and incident management experience.
• Contributions to engineering culture through tech talks, RFCs, or tooling.
